The Day of the Triffids (2009)
The Day of the Triffids (2009) a movie review.. a bit here and there.. not really that well written…
**SPOILER** **SPOILER** **SPOILER** **SPOILER** **SPOILER** and bad language…
is you don’t get it there’s no hope for you…
but to begin..
O! M! G!
I mean.. there is probably some reason why one shoudn’t remake classics, but if the remake has Eddie Izzard in it, I don’t see the problem… I don’t, frankly, care if people find it bad etc.. it has Eddie Izzard in it for fuck sake.
But honestly, it’s not a remake remake, seeing as the meteor shower that made people blind and which signaled the comming of the Triffids in the 1962 movie is in this one a sunstorm. There is still a guy who’s had his eyes operated on, but this guy seems to be a doctor, specialized in Triffids (well, that’s handy). Seems this they have been on earth for ages and has come to a “symbiotic relationship” with humans. And it seems that “Triffid Oil” helped earth from global warming.
But back to the important bit. Eddie Izzard. About 10 min. or so into the moive we meet him on a plane. He was asleep through the whole sunstorm thing so he is the only one on the plane who can see. As soon as he wakes up it seems that he gets the situation and starts saving his own ass. And I love it. You know me. I love bad guys. He was somewhat badguy in “My super ex-girlfriend” but that doesn’t really count because what he did he did out of love. But is it love in this movie too, me thinks. Love for himself, love of life and wanting to survive and I fankly see nothing wrong with that.
But yeah… he does have that “I am a bad guy” look to him. Even with make-up. I think it’s the eyebrows. They are so devlish XD
But yes… Maybe a little power trippy too, but that alright. I think he might be wanting the “ruler of the world” title, but that’s alright too…
But honestly, besides Eddie and daughter Redgrave it seems they threw everything but the kitchen siink at this thing to see if anything would stick.
For an over two hour long movie it is filled with somewhat boring stuff.
I wonder if they used ome of the old BBC series as a guide thingie too. I never really payed much attention to the series becuse.. well… I like the good old movie best…
I read a, os should I said I looked briefly at a comment thing about this 2009 remake on imDb, and it saud it was shit. This person clearly don’t enjoy the brilliance that is Eddie Izzard. I guess I’m just a huge ass fan of his.
I kinda get the “28 days later” vibe from this. The only thing missing in this movie is that the people who gets killed by the Triffids stay dead and don’t come back to life, which would make it even more thrilling. XD
What I don’t get is why it’s being called horrible when clearly it’s brilliantly made.
ex. As I said Eddie is a bad guy and when he meets Major Roker (Jason Priestley), who wants to help the blind and thus puts spanners in Torrence’s (Eddie) wheels, he does what he sees fit and undermines him, takes over and convinces Jo (Redgrave daughter) to make an emergency broadcast thing on the radio. As he is talking about how pleased Roker will be about it and stuff the camera pans over and several faces of Eddie appears (two faced, double crossing… speaking with forked tongue, if you will (in case it escaped you)).
Well, I thought it was brilliant anyway..
And mother Redgrave is in it too. Not untill the second half. Yes, it’s a two parter. But if I can do it, so can you. Another thing I don’t get is why Venessa Redgrave keeps picking complex, slightly evil, whtout being evil really, charecters. She does them well, I’ll give her that, but I’d love to see her as a sweet lady, for once.
OK. There is only one thing I have to poo-poo upon in this second half.
In the first half the good doctor gets sent away by Torrence and he in turn tells Jo that he died. And, of course, she believes him. But then she realises he’s full of shit and runs away. They, the doctor and Jo, eventually meet and they are all =D, laughing and other happy stuff. And then she gives him his belongings and they dance. Like you always do.. right? Well, I do… whenever my Jan comes home from work we always dance <.<
And second half, not so fun, even thought you get the conclution to the whole thing.. They run away to the Isle of Wsomething… there they start to take out the Triffids and they all live happily ever after…
And in the second half you get less Eddie.. and you jus tknow he’s going to die because of his assholery…
All in all… I liked it.
If you’re not into the whole sci-fi thing and have no idea who Eddie Izzard is then you probably won’t like it.. lol
But I still think it’s worth a gander.

Hi GBO.
long time no chatty. Been dealing with screaming baby and 2 and half year old, plus work, and my big spot which is on my right cheek and taking over my life. I mean IT gets calls, not me, IT is invited to play pool with Ralph, my mate’s wart, not me. I mean life couldn’t get much worse. But nedy mind, Sundays seem to get here almost 6 days after the last one, amazing! I honestly do look forward to my Sunday Sit Down, and a good movie beatin’. Such a wonderful idea!
Keep up the good work, this is what Sundays are made for.
hope to catch you soon on FlashC. My log on times are weird as Im normally injecting milk into little luke. ni ni. Tom-meister.

I must say, Tom…
You post in the weirdest entries.. lol
and you don’t have to repeat one.. I get them all :3
The only thing I didn’t quite get is… the big spot on your right cheek… If you’re talking about Mrs. Hagrid, then just say so…
and I think it’s great that, if it is indeed her, she gets out there and do stuff… after at least 2 months of hardly being able to move…
oh well… Sundays come, thankfully… and this sunday I save my daylight too, so I move one hour forward….
which means I have no idea how things’ll work out..
I’ll just go on Flash and post… letting people know how long till movietime…
see you around, Tom-minator

heyyyy oooo
Nope, spot on my cheek was a spot on my cheek. Don’t know where it came from, too much sugar I suppose. Hagrid is in bed most hours of the day, in bed-ington by 8pm GMT, and I get home at 7pm, so not long to post kiddies off to bed, then watch a movie, then bed myself.
I don’t know why Im so weird. I cant work it out.
yeah, thats a point, what happens when our clocks move forward one hour? oh well, cross that bridge when we come to it I suppose. Any clue to what delights we have this Sunday??? Saw your post on Creature from sea Bed, the mexican thing seem to get to you! We can ditch that movie if you want!
Poor old G is getting a bit of a bashing lately, Ed asked ‘When we gonna get something good on here’, few guys keep pestering him for movies. I say just let chips fall where they may, Im just happy to get a surprise when I log in! I think ol’ G does a great job posting up classic sci-fi stuff! Big cuddles for him!
Oh well, off to beddy now. Sorry for weird posts! My mind is shot after a quirky day at work thinking up ideas all day!

Oh…
well, she did just press something the size of a watermelon out the holesize of a lemon, so I think we can safely say she can just stay in bed all she wants…
It’s ok if we do the Creature from the sea thingie…
I don’t mind… I mean I do, but I can just bitch about it on Sunday.. makes it extra fun.. and we can make fun of horrid americans
Yeah, I saw the thing between Ed and G…
And I totally agree with you… I mean, we can ask for movies, but if it takes a few months to get there, then that’s fine… He doesn’t work for me, so to speak, it’s his site and what he says goes…
I asked him a week or so ago if he had Sssss! and he said he did and that he would post it… I do not mind having to wait.. it makes it all the more fun when it gets posted… same with Piranha and those other movies I asked for… He’s allowed to take his time.. He does have a job to do too… and yes, he does deserve a big hug for all the great work he does for us…
Sundays would be terribly boring without his contribution..
And speaking of Sunday… last sunday had a rare treat… when he turned up =D
Really made my day..

Hagrid chose the ‘too posh to push’ option, little guy came out the sunroof, not the front door! She is out on the booze again now! So I have time to enjoy Abominable Snowman!!! mwahaaa haaa haa. (and i have just eaten all her chocolate- toms in trouble, toms in trouble!)
Im amazed you guys know so many (bad) movies! How would you even know what to ask him for?! I just like surprises, I leave it to the professionals to choose the flicks! Im amazed at some of the choices, films I have never even heard of!
I wonder if G would ever consider old black n white serials, like flash gordon, or rocketman? He could upload one a week on a saturday, 20 minute episodes!
I will pluck up courage to ask for Earth vs The Flying Saucers, a Harryhausen special. I loved that film, saw it when I was really young, and thought it was fantastic, loved that it was black n white too, even though I had just wrapped my jaw around my head after seeing Star Wars in all its glory.
Loved the Bruce Lee references last week! Everyone is on the button with famous quotes from various films! ‘or yaw miss all da heavenwee gwory’! Crackin’
Lovin ‘Sunday Slam’! Such a cool cool place to be on a Sunday evening! Keep up good work

Yeah… if I were to have a baby, not that I ever will (I got my family all ready made, everyone potty trained and everything.. XD ), I would opt for either sunroofing or just leaving the bugger in there… But I would be drugged… so so so heavily….
Luckily, the other guys are far better at the old movie thing than I am. I find old movies on imDb.com, movies I’ve seen before and then I scroll down to the bottom of the page where it has “related” movies… and I check them out. If something looks interesting, I ask for it… or ask if G has seen it, at least.
I’m sure that if you ask really very nicely then maybe you’ll get lucky.
And as for Earth vs The Flying Saucers. I haven’t seen it before, I think, and I did mean to ask him about it. But I forgot… Especially after he said he’d put up Ssssss! for me. It’s such a rediculous movie, you’re really in for a treat.
I love Sundays now. Before it was just a day before we had to get back to work or school or course or whatever… now it’s fun =D
I love mst3k quotes, so I do steal them as often as I can… just have to make sure that they fit somewhat into the setting… XD
